Nearly every department store or big box store will sell running shoes. They may not sell the best running shoes. The tennis shoes or sneakers sold in most places will last for a while. The product will server its intended purpose. The shoes are not necessarily intended for the true runner. The big box store product is intended for daily wear.

The best running shoes are found online and in sporting goods stores. The largest sporting good’s store chain, Dick’s, will be able to help a customer find shoes that will meet his or her needs. Sporting goods stores usually have a knowledgeable staff who can help a customer pick out the right product.

The best running shoes must also conform to the shape of the user’s feet. A person with high arches needs arch support. A person with flat feet needs cushioning throughout the shoe. Every runner needs a shoe that will hold up through tough use and long distances.

No one purchases a pair of running shoes because of the way the shoes look. They want to know if it will give them some competitive advantage. The look of a pair of shoes is a secondary concern for the serious runner.

Each year, thousands of people across the country participate in marathons. Some participate in marathons to raise money for important causes. Others participate in marathons just for the thrill on. The goal that most marathon runners have in mind is to be able to run as fast as possible.

The first thing that a person should do is set realistic goals. Setting one’s goals too high will only lead to frustration. For example, if one eventually wants to be able to run 13 miles in 2 hours, he or she start by setting a goal of 13 miles in 3 hours. As time progresses, one will be able to take time off to meet that goal.

The key to being successful at anything is practicing. People who want to be successful marathon runners will have to spend hours out of their week practicing to meet their goal. Additionally, it is also important to pay careful attention to one’s diet. Foods that are high in saturated fat, sugar and cholesterol can cause a person to run slower. Fueling the body with lean protein, vegetables, fruits and grains will allow a person to get the most out of his or her training sessions.

It’s no lie that Texas is a large state and just about every weekend there’s some sort of race going on throughout the state. For those that live within the Austin area, listed below are a few marathons that you may be interested in:

Livestrong Austin Marathon: This is one of the biggest races in all of Texas. This scenic run sprawls along the Town Lake and Colorado River area. This marathon is rather difficult because of all the hills spread throughout the paths. This race is held in February and runs 65 to 95 for registration.

ZOOMA Austin Half Marathon: Held in April, this is a marathon that runs along Austin’s countryside. It starts at the Hyatt Regency Hotel downtown and finishes in a smaller town of Bastrop. Sponsored by ZOOMA, this event runs 75 to 95 for registration.

The Decker Challenge: This marathon is held in December and ran by the Austin Runners Club. Also running along the countryside, this marathon is a gigantic loop that goes around Decker Lake. The cost of this marathon ranges anywhere from 50 to 85 depending on when the runner registers.

Marathons are a great test of stamina and athletic skill. As you finally get up the courage to participate in a marathon, you need to prepare yourself for the challenge ahead.

First off, don-t sign up at the last minute. You should make the decision at least six months in advance and be prepared for a lot of strenuous exercise to prepare you for the race. Start out by running as long as you can, setting your current limit. Then try to raise that limit little by little each time you go out.Get more information here. http://www.fitsugar.com/FitSugar-Reader-Asks-Why-Train-Race-11375127

Second, make sure you stretch regularly before your training sessions and make sure you-re not overdoing it or not taking care of yourself while training. In addition, make sure you keep yourself properly hydrated.

Third, make sure you get plenty of rest and if you feel injured or in pain from the exercise, rest until you feel better. You don-t want to make a possible injury worse.

Finally, make sure you keep an even pace throughout the race. If you go too fast too early you may tire yourself out very quickly. Start out at a moderate pace, and then gradually start speeding up as the race goes on. A common racing quote is “Slow and steady wins the race’ and that is certainly true.
